MCX Lot Size 2026: Lot Sizes for All Commodity Contracts

MCX lot size is the fixed quantity of a commodity that one futures or options contract on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India represents. You can only trade in whole lots, so the lot size decides your contract value, margin and profit or loss per price move.

Quick answer (October 2026):

  • One lot of MCX Crude Oil is 100 barrels, and one lot of Crude Oil Mini is 10 barrels.

  • One lot of MCX Gold is 1 kg, Gold Mini (GOLDM) is 100 grams, Gold Guinea is 8 grams and Gold Petal is 1 gram.

  • One lot of MCX Silver is 30 kg, Silver Mini (SILVERM) is 5 kg and Silver Micro (SILVERMIC) is 1 kg.

  • One lot of Natural Gas is 1,250 mmBtu, and one lot of Natural Gas Mini is 250 mmBtu.

  • One lot of MCX Copper is 2,500 kg.

See How One MCX Lot Moves Your P&L

Lot size is easier to understand when you watch it change your profit and loss. On the AlgoTest Option Simulator, you can replay past MCX option sessions and see how one lot turns every point of premium movement into rupees.

  • Pick a commodity like Crude Oil, Gold, Natural Gas or Silver, and set the number of lots you want to trade.

  • Watch how the same premium move hits a main contract differently from its mini version.

  • Practise entries and exits on real past prices without risking real money.

Gold Lot Size on MCX

MCX lists five gold futures contracts, from 1 kg down to 1 gram. All of them have a tick size of ₹1, but the quote unit changes, so the rupee value of each move is very different.

MCX Gold Lot Size

The MCX gold lot size is 1 kg (symbol GOLD). The price is quoted per 10 grams, so one lot holds 100 quote units and a ₹1 move changes the value of one lot by ₹100.

Gold Mini Lot Size (GOLDM)

The Gold Mini lot size is 100 grams (symbol GOLDM). It is quoted per 10 grams, so one lot holds 10 quote units and a ₹1 move changes the value of one lot by ₹10.

Gold Ten Lot Size

The Gold Ten lot size is 10 grams (symbol GOLDTEN). It is quoted per 10 grams, so a ₹1 move changes one lot by ₹1.

Gold Guinea Lot Size

The Gold Guinea lot size is 8 grams (symbol GOLDGUINEA). Its price is quoted for the full 8 grams, so a ₹1 move changes one lot by ₹1.

Gold Petal Lot Size

The Gold Petal lot size is 1 gram (symbol GOLDPETAL). It is the smallest gold contract on MCX, and its price is quoted per gram, so a ₹1 move changes one lot by ₹1.

Silver Lot Size on MCX

MCX lists four silver futures contracts: 30 kg, 5 kg, 1 kg and 100 grams. The tick size is ₹1 for all four.

MCX Silver Lot Size

The MCX silver lot size is 30 kg (symbol SILVER). The price is quoted per kg, so a ₹1 move in the silver price changes the value of one lot by ₹30.

Silver Mini Lot Size (SILVERM)

The Silver Mini lot size is 5 kg (symbol SILVERM). It is quoted per kg, so a ₹1 move changes the value of one SILVERM lot by ₹5.

Silver Micro Lot Size (SILVERMIC)

The Silver Micro lot size is 1 kg (symbol SILVERMIC). It is quoted per kg, so a ₹1 move changes the value of one SILVERMIC lot by ₹1. Silver Micro has no options contract, so it trades as futures only.

Silver 100 Lot Size

The Silver 100 lot size is 100 grams (symbol SILVER100). MCX launched it on 1 June 2026, and it is now the smallest silver contract on the exchange.

  • The price is quoted per 10 grams, not per kg.

  • A ₹1 move per 10 grams changes the value of one lot by ₹10.

Crude Oil Lot Size on MCX

MCX has two crude oil futures contracts: the main contract and a mini contract one-tenth its size. Both are quoted per barrel with a tick size of ₹1.

Crude Oil Lot Size MCX

The MCX crude oil lot size is 100 barrels (symbol CRUDEOIL). A ₹1 move in the price per barrel changes the value of one lot by ₹100.

Crude Oil Mini Lot Size

The Crude Oil Mini lot size is 10 barrels (symbol CRUDEOILM). A ₹1 move per barrel changes the value of one lot by ₹10.

Crude oil tends to move the most in the evening, when US markets are open. Check the MCX trading time guide before you plan entries and exits.

Natural Gas Lot Size on MCX

MCX has two natural gas futures contracts, both quoted per mmBtu (million British thermal units). The tick size is 10 paise for both.

Natural Gas Lot Size

The MCX natural gas lot size is 1,250 mmBtu (symbol NATURALGAS). A ₹1 move in the price per mmBtu changes the value of one lot by ₹1,250, and one tick of 10 paise changes it by ₹125.

Natural Gas Mini Lot Size

The Natural Gas Mini lot size is 250 mmBtu (symbol NATGASMINI). A ₹1 move per mmBtu changes the value of one lot by ₹250, and one tick of 10 paise changes it by ₹25.

MCX Copper Lot Size

The MCX copper lot size is 2,500 kg, or 2.5 metric tonnes (symbol COPPER). The price is quoted per kg with a tick size of 5 paise.

  • A ₹1 move per kg changes the value of one copper lot by ₹2,500.

  • One tick of 5 paise changes the value of one lot by ₹125.

The copper lot size in MCX was raised from 1 MT to 2,500 kg in 2019. Some older charts still mention a Copper Mini contract of 250 kg. It does not appear in current MCX contract lists, so use 2,500 kg for the COPPER contract.

Zinc, Aluminium, Lead and Nickel Lot Size

Zinc, Aluminium and Lead each have a 5 MT main contract and a 1 MT mini contract, all quoted per kg. Nickel has a lot size of 250 kg, down from 1,500 kg before the September 2025 expiry.

Other MCX Contract Lot Sizes

MCX also lists agri, index, power and steel contracts. Their lot sizes follow the same rule: you trade in whole lots only.

Index contracts use a rupee multiplier instead of a physical quantity. A 100-point move changes one Bulldex lot by ₹3,000 and one Metldex lot by ₹4,000.

MCX Options Lot Size

An MCX options contract has the same lot size as its underlying futures contract. This is because MCX options are options on futures, not on the physical commodity.

  • Gold Ten, Gold Guinea, Gold Petal, Silver Micro and Silver 100 have no options contracts.

  • An in-the-money MCX option that you hold till expiry can turn into a futures position of the same lot size, which needs full futures margin.

How to Calculate MCX Contract Value From the Contract Specification

An MCX contract specification fixes four numbers you need before a trade: the lot size, the quote unit, the tick size and the expiry date. The quote unit matters most, because MCX often quotes the price for a smaller quantity than the lot.

Contract value = Price × (Lot size ÷ Quote unit)

P&L per lot = Price change × (Lot size ÷ Quote unit)

For example, Gold Mini is 100 grams quoted per 10 grams, so the multiplier is 10. If gold trades at ₹1,50,000 per 10 grams, one GOLDM lot is worth about ₹15 lakh. Your margin is a percentage of this contract value, not of the quoted price.

Index F&O on NSE and BSE uses the same idea, with the lot set in index units instead of kilograms or barrels. See the Nifty lot size, Bank Nifty lot size and Sensex lot size guides for those contracts.

You can also test this on the Option Simulator by replaying a past MCX session with one lot and checking how the P&L matches the formula.

Recent MCX Lot Size Changes

The latest change is the launch of Crude Sunflower Oil futures on 12 October 2026. Older lists online often miss it, along with Silver 100, Gold Ten and the smaller Nickel lot.
