The US market opening time in India is 7:00 PM IST during US daylight saving time and 8:00 PM IST during US standard time. The regular NYSE and Nasdaq stock trading session closes at 1:30 AM IST or 2:30 AM IST, respectively, the next day. These hours apply Monday to Friday in the US, except exchange holidays and scheduled early closes.
As of 16 September 2026, the regular opening time is 7:00 PM IST. It changes to 8:00 PM IST from Monday, 2 November 2026.
US stock market timings in IST
Both NYSE and Nasdaq run their regular stock trading session from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM Eastern Time (ET).
These are regular-session hours for US trading days within each date range. Exchange holidays and early closes are exceptions.
For example, during daylight saving time, the US Monday session starts on Monday evening in India and ends early on Tuesday morning.
The Nasdaq trading-hours and holiday calendar lists regular hours, extended sessions and scheduled closures. These stock market timings should not be used as a timetable for US futures or every options contract.

Why does the US market opening time change in India?
India stays on IST throughout the year. New York changes between Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) and Eastern Standard Time (EST).
During daylight saving time, India is 9 hours and 30 minutes ahead of New York.
During standard time, India is 10 hours and 30 minutes ahead.
The exchanges still open at 9:30 AM in New York. The one-hour clock change shifts the opening time in India.
Under the current US rule, daylight saving time begins on the second Sunday in March and ends on the first Sunday in November. The clock changes happen on Sundays, so the new regular opening time applies from the following Monday:
When a platform shows “ET”, it generally means the applicable Eastern Time. “EST” specifically means standard time, so treating EST as a year-round label can produce a one-hour error.
Can you trade before the US market opens?
Some brokers provide pre-market and after-hours trading. Access depends on the broker, account, security and order type.

These are exchange session windows. A broker may offer a shorter window, support only certain securities or require a separate extended-hours setting. Do not assume every platform available in India supports the full schedule.

Is Nasdaq moving to 23-hour trading?
Nasdaq's Global Trading Hours plan targets 6 December 2026 for a 23-hour trading day, five days a week, subject to technical readiness and applicable rule changes.
The planned night session would run from 9:00 PM to 4:00 AM ET, equivalent to 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM IST the following day during US standard time. The regular 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM ET session would remain. As of this article's review date, this is a planned change; access will also depend on your broker.
US market holidays and early closing times
Use the US trading date when checking the exchange calendar. On a normal full trading day, the US Friday session ends in the early hours of Saturday in India. The next regular session normally starts on Monday evening in India, unless Monday is an exchange holiday.
Indian public holidays do not automatically close US exchanges. However, your broker or funding provider may have separate holiday restrictions.
After 16 September 2026, the remaining scheduled NYSE and Nasdaq holidays and early closes are:
“Closed” means no regular session begins on that US trading date. The previous US session may still be running during the early hours of the corresponding Indian date.
On the two early-close dates above, the regular equity session ends at 1:00 PM ET, which is 11:30 PM IST. Extended-session hours may also differ. Check the exchange calendar linked above and your broker's notices before placing an order.
What to check before placing a US stock order
Before submitting an order, check these details:
Session access. When comparing US stock brokers available from India, check whether regular, pre-market, after-hours and overnight trading are available for your account.
Quote time. A displayed price may be the last regular-session trade or a delayed quote. Check its timestamp and whether the app uses ET or IST.
Order type. An order entered outside regular hours may wait for the next eligible session. A limit order sets your acceptable price; it does not guarantee a fill.
Funds and fees. Check your buying power and currency conversion costs. If you are choosing between Vested and INDmoney, compare funding charges as well as trading fees.
Position size. Set your trading risk limits before opening a position, especially if you cannot monitor it through the late-night session.
